“Unravel a thrilling mystery by exploring a strange and twisted mansion, discovering curious clues, interrogating peculiar suspects and solving unique puzzles. Freya Fellow has been murdered. The lead suspect? A shadowy figure found looming over her body, wielding a knife. The problem? That suspect […] is just a painting.”

The last title of the “Detective Grimoire” series is an absolute blast in each aspect. Grimoire and Sally arrive at an island with a building complex, which goes by the name “Tangle Tower”. Two wealthy families reside here: The Fellows and the Pointers. It is also the place of death for one of the youngest Fellow children called Freya. It appears that she was murdered right when she painted a portrait of Fiona Fellow, seemingly by a stabbing wound in her chest. Fiona was in the room at the time of Freya’s death, but she refuses to speak a single word. So it is up to Grimoire and Sally to discover the truth behind this mysterious case.

The plot itself has absolutely everything one could wish for, as the players will unravel family feuds, forbidden love as well as searching for a better or at least new life. Same goes for the puzzle design, whose elegance could be best compared to the puzzles of the “Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent” series in my opinion. All of them can be solved without any hints and with pure logical thinking, but when you fail to solve them in the first attempt, Sally or Grimoire will give you useful tips, pointing you further to the core of the problem.

I could ramble passionately for hours about the fantastic graphics, music, sound effects and especially the fabulous voice acting! Each voice was perfectly picked for their characters, bringing them to life like nothing else could. Especially Edwyn Tiong as Grimoire with his ‘Cool guy, but somewhat naive and stupid’ attitude made me laugh, while the sarcastic tune in Amber Lee Connors’ performance as Sally absolutely nailed it. It also feels so satisfying to explore each corner of “Tangle Tower”, finding new information that might help to find out what really happened to Freya. [PLAY]
