GMTK Game Jam 2019: Blastsmith

“Blastsmith” by Eppu Peltonen, Nikke Tapanainen, Samuli Aaltonen, Samu Irshied & Christian Franzén.

“Fulfill the customer’s order by heating up ore, taking it to the molds and let it take shape, then cool it down in the water, and finally assemble your desired weapon from the different parts. Failing to fulfill a customer’s order will result in losing a heart, after losing all [three] hearts, [it is] game over!”

If you start sweating while playing this game, I can assure you it is not only because of the setting! You are a weaponsmith and have to serve your customers their desired pieces like swords, double blades, shields and many more. While you are able to melt five pieces of ore at the same time in “Blastsmith”, you can only put three of them into the molds and afterwards cool down another three simultaneously.

This design leads to a fun gaming experience, as you do not only have to move fast around, but also to think strategically: Sometimes it is better to serve a newer customer as soon as possible because you will not be able to serve the other one just in time. However, these people can get really angry. Whenever you are failing them, you will not only lose one of your three life points, but they will also throw a weird potion bottle at you. This magic liquid turn a tile of your room into pure lava. This also happens when one of the ores is overheating, limiting your area to move around. [PLAY]
